This coming term we have some exciting courses planned to help us all change, grow and follow Jesus more closely.

The book of acts says that of the 4 things the early church gave themselves to the first thing was teaching.

So, we are making it really easy to get some teaching that helps you take the next step in your journey no matter where you are at.  If you want to grow we want to help.

If you are just beginning to explore who Jesus is or you are in the early stages of following him, we have some great courses we would love you to do.  They will help you explore Gods love and it’s transforming power.

The Prodigal GodFinding your place at the Table – Prodigal God is a 6 week course exploring Gods grace by Tim Keller – it’s brilliant and this is for you if you are just getting to grips with the grace of God or could do with a refresher on the love of God.

The course is for 6 weeks and starts on April 26th and is led by Dan Dark

Most of us know the story of the prodigal son but the word prodigal means, lavish, over the top and excessive – well that is how God loves us and it’s how the Father loved the wayward son in one of the most well known of Jesus’ stories.

Tim Keller is author of the New York Times Bestseller – the reason for God.  Taking his trademark intellectual approach to understanding Christianity, he uncovers the essential message of Jesus, locked inside his most familiar parable.

If you want to follow Jesus then this is the key foundation you must build on – his lavish and extravagant love for you.

Here’s what others have said about the course:

The insight that Tim Keller has about the two individuals in the story and the heart of the God who loves them both… it is not much of an overstatement to say I read that and God wrecked me afresh.

— Bill Hybels, Pastor of Willow Creek Community Church

far too few Christians reach their potential. Why? Usually because they don’t have a real understanding of their new identity in Christ.

While traditional discipleship can often feel like a bunch of do’s and don’ts you only have to read any of Paul’s letters to the churches and to discover you usually get half way through before you find instructions on how to behave. First he concentrates on what’s already been done; the “riches” we have in Christ (Ephesians 1:18). Because it’s not what we do that determines who we are – it’s who we are that determines what we do.

The Freedom in Christ course first helps us grasp all that happened the moment we became Christians: who we are in Christ; the truth of God’s unconditional love; why there is no condemnation; why we don’t have to languish in cycles of sin, negative thinking and hopelessness.

But good teaching on its own is not enough. Simply telling people the truth doesn’t mean that they really know it. Signing up for this course also includes a ministry process to help you.  For many this is the key to the teaching falling into place.

“It makes little difference how fast you can run the 100 meters when the race is 400 meters long. Life is not a sprint; it is a distance run, and it demands the kind of conditioning that enables people to go the distance.”

—Gordon MacDonald

Veteran pastor and best-selling author Gordon MacDonald says you must develop resilience—the courage and ability to get up when you fall, to keep running when you’re bone-weary, and to keep your eye on the goal even in the murkiest moments. Using the backdrop of his own experiences as a champion runner, MacDonald demonstrates how resilient people

  • Practice spiritual self-discipline to build stamina and grit;
  • Know what’s up ahead, what obstacles they will likely face; and
  • Bond with special friends who share their commitment to finishing well.

The book is broken into 5 key themes and we will explore each theme throughout the course.  The themes are:

1. What it means to finish strong

2. Being inspired by a big picture of life

3. Being free from the weight of the past

4. Training to go the distance

5. Living in the company of a happy few.
