Dedications

Psalm 127:3 reminds us that children are a reward from God.  Dedication is a simple way for parents to acknowledge God’s gift to them and to commit to the responsibilities of raising their children in a Christian family with the love and support of their friends, family and wider church community.

The dedication of children is something we see occuring throughout scripture in both the Old and the New Testament.  Samuel the prophet was dedicated by his mother Hannah in 1 Samuel 1 and in Luke 2:22 we see how Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem in order to present him before God.  Only many years later as an adult was Jesus baptised in water. At New Gen we follow the same pattern of inviting new parents to make commitments to God and their child through dedication and inviting young people and adults to express their own love and commitment to God through baptism.
