New Gen Values

So what do our values mean?

WE WILL KEEP THE MAIN THING THE MAIN THING

Deuteronomy 6:5

“You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength.”

This is a foundational commandment to God’s people. It is our priority as a church family today to have a heartfelt passion for God, honouring Jesus at the centre of our shared lives. That love engages all our energy, abilities and our intellect and determination. It is this passion that fuels the activities and the life of New Gen Church. Whether it is running a kids club, meeting with somebody who is sick or adding up our finances…

We want to express that love for God to our world.

WE WILL BE PASSIONATE ABOUT PEOPLE

Matthew 22:37-40

“Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Loving our neighbour is what people who love God do. Being passionate about people means loving them to release their potential through friendship, love, training, discipleship and practical help.

WE WILL BE OUTRAGEOUSLY HOSPITABLE

Romans 12:13

“Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”

Generosity flows out of us knowing God’s generosity to us.

We love to practise generosity and excellent hospitality.

In fact these are a key building block of our church. Of course generosity and hospitality are much more than just enjoying good food together, they involve our whole lives and they flow out of our gratitude to God and all He has done for us.

WE WILL MAKE GOOD THINGS HAPPEN

Galatians 6:9

“Let us not become weary in doing good for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Here in the life of New Gen, we have built the value that change is ever present, programmes and events and structures are constantly under review, not just for the sake of it, but in order to make a difference in our community. Ultimately we want to make the world around us a better place. Jesus modelled living as a servant. We believe we should too.

WE WILL BRING OUR BEST

2 Corinthians 8:7

“Since you excel in so many ways, you have so much faith such gifted speakers, such knowledge, such enthusiasm and such love for us. Now I want you to excel in this gracious ministry of giving.”

When God made the universe he did an excellent job. One look at God’s creativity and attention to detail tells us that he believes in doing things well. At New Gen we are not merely aiming to do some good things. We are aiming for the highest possible standard. That doesn’t mean perfectionism, that doesn’t mean that we are not going to fail. Of course we will fail, but it means making the most of every opportunity. It means using our creativity and our imaginations to give of our best.

WE WILL LIVE WITH INTEGRITY

Titus 2:6-8

“In the same way encourage the young men to live wisely in all they do and you yourself must be an example to them by doing good deeds of every kind. But everything you do reflects the integrity or seriousness of your teaching. That your teaching be so correct that it can’t be criticised, that those who want to argue will be ashamed because they won’t have anything bad to say about us.”

Integrity is living our lives knowing God can see us. How we manage our finances, our relationships and our lifestyles matter.

It is the openness, honesty and humility that are the principals we want to live by. We have tried to adopt these principles into our lives and we try to make sure that these principles are adopted in the life of New Gen.
